What's the Bear Complex? It's a barbell complex consisting of 1 Power Clean,1 Front Squat, 1 Push Press, 1 Back Squat & 1 Push Jerk. There could be some argument over the push press vs push jerk but in my opinion being able to press the weight is pretty fundamental to safely lowering it to the back rack. Here's where some questions will confuse the situation. One cycle of the complex ( 1PC+1FS+ 1PP+ 1BS + 1PJ) equals one rep. Doing eleven of those with out letting go of the bar equals one round ( after you have done two Muscle Ups). If you drop the bar before all 11 reps you complete a 17 burpee penalty. Why the Bear Complex? The bear complex was really popular about 5 years ago. It's a fun barbell complex that you can do a few different ways. The first time we did it just watching all the creative ways people came up with holding onto the bar just to avoid the burpees was a lot of fun. Maybe not so much in the moment but it's a lot of fun to look back on. Life is more fun with scars. I have wanted to bring this out for a bit then stumbled across the news that a "famous" grizzly bear had died. Then Viola, a really good reason to make a fun WOD came up. If your are going to do a hard work out and name it after something what better thing to name it after than a grizzly bear.
