How long have you done CrossFit:
What do you LOVE seeing on the whiteboard when you get to Fit Club? Why?
Every-minute-on-the-minute snatch practice. There’s something oddly calming about scheduled repetition–especially with something as explosive and precise as a snatch.
What do you HATE seeing on the whiteboard when you get to Fit Club? Why?
Thrusters. It’s such a simple movement, but it takes so much out of me. I feel like they should be easy, but they’re not. They’re just not.
What’s your go-to “cheat” meal? (not that you do it very often, right?)
That’s easy: Jeni’s Ice Cream.
“If you suck at something, you’re going to continue to suck at it until you don’t suck anymore.”
What's the biggest change you've seen in yourself since beginning CrossFit?
I have a much better sense of my overall wellness. I’m much more aware of the way food effects me, the way exercise effect me, the way my attitude and mood affects me–just how everything contributes to my wellness.
What has Fit Club/CrossFit taught you about yourself?
I’m better at life when the people around me are awesome.
What motivates you to push yourself further?
The people around me. When I see a room full of people squeezing every drop out of themselves to be better humans, I can’t help but want to join in the fun. Few things bring people together like shared struggle.
What advice would you give to someone curious about or just starting CrossFit?
CrossFit is most meaningful when your focus is in the right place. Sure, we all want to be a little slimmer and a little tighter–and those things are nice side effects. But when you focus on how you feel, how you move, and building a person that's capable of awesome things, that’s when the magic happens. That’s when your life gets transformed, along with your body.
